Getting Started || Laura - July 14
Today we spent our first of three afternoons doing a children's program in Carapungo, a poorer suburb of Quito. The children are so needy and attentive! Many of them come from rough homes and family backgrounds, and this makes them all the more receptive to what we have to offer them. My favorite part of the day was the last group of 11-12 year-old kids my game team had. I helped a group of five girls build a Popsicle stick tower. The girls spent most of the time eagerly pummeling me with questions--they wanted to know all about my life in America. "Tell us about your life! Where do you live? What do you like to do? Do you have a boyfriend? Are you a student? What kind of music do you like?" It was so special to share about my life with them and hear about theirs, even if my Spanish was broken! God gave us an immediate connection in spite of the dramatic differences in our life stories. I already know I will miss Dianna, Naomi, and the others when we finish our program there.Laura, for the team
