Ecuador - July 15 || Rachel
Our third day in Quito dawned clear and cool. Micah was able to join us after spending all day Monday in the passport office in Miami. Ashley also got her suitcase back! After breakfast we all headed out for the church to begin ministry for the day. Our craft team has had a great time working together. Lizzie, Katie and Alyssa are great small group team-mates! We helped the kids make bracelets to give away - in order to show their love. Our theme for the day was loving others as Christ loved us.Communicating with the kids has been difficult for me as I speak no spanish. Martin is our translator and has done a phenomenal job. Just 15, he does so well making up for my many mistakes in trying to communicate. The few phrases I've picked up make the kids think that I can speak their language, and they rattle off 500 words per minute! I so wish I could understand them. Hugs, expression and the few things I can say go a long way towards making friends. The kids often laugh at my attempts to speak - or even correct my sloppy spanish!We've enjoyed working with the church in Quito in the morning, and then traveling about an hour away to do it again with another church. There are fewer kids at the afternoon session, but more opportunities for making friends and interacting one-on-one. Our day closed out with a great team meeting and lots of prayer. Can't wait to see what will happen over the next couple of weeks!~Rachel
