Day 3 || Cultural Tidal Wave - Michaela

Cultural tidal wave. This is the term best describes my experiences in Chiapas over the past two days. My first time out of the United States and everything is exciting, terrifying, and overwhelming. My favorite part so far is walking places with my team. Why? Because then I get to see and hear the people. It is true that we are here to learn Spanish and learn from another culture. But past all that I’m beginning to see that the people are most important. As we walked yesterday, there were so many contrasts. One minute you could see a sharply dressed business man; the next a little girl begging in the street. Taking it all in can be a lot to process, but one thing still holds true in any culture.  God is an almighty Savior and He loves these people. Without Christ, the beggar girl and I are the same. As I learn Spanish for five weeks where things puzzle and confuse me in this cultural tidal wave, my prayer is to show love as Christ first loved me.-          Michaela for the teamSan CristobalStudy buddies at the local park.
