[07.21 - Sunday] Orphanage and Evening in Town
We started the morning by heading to the orphanage for a pancake breakfast and church service. The pancakes and bacon were delicious and Carlos preached on the blessings of God and obedience to Him (all in Spanish). After church, we grilled out hamburgers and hotdogs and played with the precious kids for a while. After lunch we began the process of stuffing 2 power cords into a pipe (300ft.) that will later be put underground. We all had to shake the pipe intensely for about 2 hours so the cord would move through, but we got to workout our biceps!Late afternoon we stopped by Chedraui to pick up some groceries. For dinner we ate downtown at El Meson Del Taco for some great authentic tacos and horchata. Horchata is a drink made out of blended rice (like rice milk) and cinnamon. Once we were stuffed from dinner, we ate dessert of French pastries at Ooh La La. It was fun because we all tasted each other’s desserts so we could try a lot of variety. After dessert we split into two groups. A few headed back to the Terrells and the rest walked around El Centro (downtown) and took a few taxis back “home”. There was a festival going on so there was plenty to watch and enjoy. We saw some people dressed up in various Mayan costumes, listened to a Hippie band chant and play drums, and shopped in the market and local stores. When everyone met back at the Terrells, we played Four on a Couch till it was time to go to bed.- Melissa
