Unexpected Blessings
No one really knew what to expect going into this afternoons “church” experience. After the hour long bus ride we slowed and started feeling huge pot holes in the road. As I looked out the window, I could only stare, seeing some of the poorest homes I’ve seen yet. People milling about… kids running up at the sight of the huge bus! We all piled out and got to business. These kids LOVED any and all attention you would give them. Most of them were easy to break out in a huge grin and give you a high five!! Some like this little boy in the first photo below were quite shy and less likely to run up to you.One of the awesome things about having 33 members on this team is that even though there may be 200+ kids… There’s usually someone who can seek out the quite shy ones to make sure they feel loved and included! At first we weren’t sure if the photography team was going to be able to do a lesson with the older kids because at first there didn’t seem to be many kids over 10… As time passed we realized we would definitely have enough kids to do a program for just the older kids. We ended up having 40+ kids in our class. They were pretty rowdy at first, but seemed to calm down a bit, especially when told that if they didn’t listen to the lesson they wouldn’t be allowed to use the camera’s we brought all the way from kids in America just for THEM to use.
I personally felt today was one of the most amazing days of my life, as I poured everything I could out into the lives of kids who we were able to share the gospel with, these kids need Jesus!!!!!! One little boy especially gripped my heart seen with me in the last photo… Quan Carlo. He would come up and put his arm around me and just stand there with me. When we were loading the bus to leave he grabbed my hand and wouldn’t let go. I literally had to pull away to get on the bus. Today’s “Church” experience brings me to my knees tonight as I pray and thank God for the kids. I thank God for today, for God has blessed me beyond what I am able to describe.
