[07.19 - Friday] Worth Every Second

Nuevo Mexico, Palma Real, San CristobalIt was another early morning for our team today. We were up by 5:30am, packed up all of our stuff, and left Nuevo Mexico for Palma Real for one last clinic and children’s program before heading “home” to San Cristobal. Once at Palma Real, we had a slow start to the children’s program, but a leisurely walk around the village allowed the team members to round up around +/- 40 children. Like Thursday afternoon we split the children into groups of boys and girls. After a game of soccer and making “Belts of Truth”, the kids sat down for songs and a skit. Our skit drew the attention of some of the older villagers, and by the end of the program we had some teenagers and adults watching. They were amused by the singing competition we had: Nathan and Alex versus all of the children and team members in an effort to see who could sing loudest. Nathan and Alex came out victorious in the end. After the singing, the team packed up their stuff, said their goodbyes, and headed back to San Cristobal. We stopped at Chiflon Falls on the way back, and took a short break to climb the falls and take a quick dip in the water (we were all eager to swim as none of us had showered all week). The falls were beautiful and on the way back down we stopped to swim and body surf down the white water rapids. We really enjoyed the time we had to kick back and enjoy the beautiful nature that Chiapas has to offer. We returned back to the Terrell’s at around 7:30 p.m., had a quick dinner, showered, and wasted no time in going to sleep. Our first week in the jungle was exhausting but it was worth every second.- ChelsiaIMG_6373IMG_6378IMG_6384IMG_6396IMG_6420IMG_6424IMG_6429IMG_6387IMG_6412IMG_6434IMG_6443IMG_6447
