I’M GOING TO

I am so excited to be part of a ministry to women in Zimbabwe this summer! Please read this page for info on the team I am traveling with, why I am going, and how you can help.

Where am I going?

I am going to Zimbabwe with Global Encounters! Zimbabwe is one of the most economically depressed countries in the world and AIDS has ravaged the adult population, leaving many girls to grow up without training, parenting, or provision. I’m going to partner with Hands of Hope and teach in their seamstress school. This school is designed to help young women learn the skills that will allow them to either get a good job or start their own business sewing clothes. This is a stable job for women in Zimbabwe that allows them to support themselves. While the school runs for six months, I will be there helping with some of their final training from July 29 to August 13. I’m so excited that my skills are needed in a unique ministry that truly changes the lives of the girls involved!

The young woman next to her has purple face paint and is wearing a dark shirt. The person to her right with a red shirt and face paint, partially obscured. The girl in front wears a red hoodie and has orange face paint on her face.

Why does Zimbabwe need missions?

Zimbabwe was once the “breadbasket of Africa,” the most prosperous sub-saharan African country. Now it is deeply mired in poverty, since their economic collapse in 2007. Hyperinflation and corruption cripple the economy. In addition, Zimbabwe has one of the highest AIDS infection rates in the world and very little medical care, which has resulted in millions of orphans and tens of thousands of child-led households. These children desperately need practical help to meet their basic needs and people who will love them and show them the love of their Heavenly Father.

Global Encounters partners with Hands of Hope, a ministry that has established feeding stations for orphans all over Zimbabwe. These feeding stations keep the kids alive physically, but also provide community, mentoring, discipleship, and job training. Each feeding station is run in connection with a local church that helps take on the responsibility for caring for the orphaned kids.

How can you help?

Please pray for my time in Zimbabwe, that I would be able to teach in a way that really helps the young women grow in their skills and also know that they are loved and valued.

You can also help financially! My expenses are about $2400, including flights. You are welcome to share in this opportunity in large or small ways! You can use the link below to donate and it will be put towards my trip. Thank you so much for your generosity and help!
