"Sunday in Quito" || Christina - July 2

Sunday Funday in Quito began as we were lead  on a winding journey to a small but vibrant church! We were welcome by friendly smiles  and warm embraces then ushered into a beautiful passionate worship service with incredibly talented musicians! Voices and hands were raised singing praises to Jesus. Emotions grew within the congregation with echoes of hallelujah filling the sanctuary.

Following the worship service our team began a colorful skit for the church called "Bucky". The skit was a story of forgiveness and loving your enemies, with the enduring hardships of Joey through bullying and failed attempts to love her enemies lead to a beautiful friendship with Bucky- "the over animated not so good guy". The triumphant victory in Bucky and Joey becoming friends lead for the them both to have great success! The skit had some impromptu additions to the storyline as a young boy, in the audience, retorted to Bucky's attempts to sway the opinions of the characters in the skit and the crowd! This little nugget even found Micah who played Bucky at the end of the day to rehash what 2+2 equals.

After the skit the kids, translators, and our team filed into a small building across the street to hold Children's church! We played a game identifying which kid was the best of each team and then those kids went to be the best of the best of the whole group. After the game we encouraged the kids that the talents and gifts they have are given to them by God. Then we gave each kid a white bandana that represents a gift from God just as the gift of salvation through Jesus provided us a path to a life without the stain of sin. The kids took the bandanas and decorated each of their own to make it special for theirselves!

After church we were invited to lunch at the house one of the pastors we are working with. Many of our translators, and other people we will be working alongside with joined us for a delicious home cooked meal! We felt so welcomed like we joined an Ecuadorian family dinner!

Then our team went out for some team time! We relaxed in the city center with laughter and cups of coffee! As the sun was setting the lights of the city lit up the rolling hills of the beautiful architecture cityscape!

It has been a great day and I am looking forward to what tomorrow holds!
