April 6 - David
After a long and tiring 11 hour bus ride from Yangon, the team finally arrived at Inle lake at about 5:00 in the morning. We decided that the best way to see the markets and villages would be by bicycle. We took about a 45 minute ride to the nearby temple, ruins of older temples, and even took a little time to watch the rice workers in the field. The team then went to the nearby market and perused some of the local shops. Lunch consisted of 'Italian' food at a nearby restaurant (which happened to be pretty authentic). The day finished with a bike ride into the foothills and watching the sunset from a hilltop vineyard.I never cease to be impressed by the beauty of some of the Buddhist temples around South Asia, specifically around the lake in the northern part of the country. But at the same time, the sheer grandeur of these temples brings some very sobering thoughts to mind. One of which is that these people are worshipping idols, sometimes even building new ones right next to the old ones which have fallen apart over time. But this for me is interpreted as a call to action. A call that these people have an insatiable hunger and thirst that can only be filled by Christ. And I believe that God has called us to do just that: preach the gospel to all nations.David
