A Great Place to Be...
Dirty streets with kids that match. That is probably the simplest way to describe the area surrounding the evening church. Most of these children have either just enough or not enough food to eat. Many looked as if they hadn’t bathed in a week. It was, however, the most spiritually enriching point in my days. Many of the children really pulled at the heartstrings of the members of the team. I was no exception. In particular, there were two little girls who touched me the greatest. They were Maria (on the left) and Talita (on the right). Talita was in my group every evening sense the first day. We slowly got to know each other (despite the language barrier), and truly enjoyed the time we spent together. And then there was Maria. She really seemed willing to learn. She was SO patient with my lack of knowledge of her language. Overall, she was an extreme joy to work with. I praise the Lord He gave me the tremendous privilege of ministering to and working with these two beautiful girls.
And now, here we are. We are at the end of week one. We all said our goodbyes to the children, and prayed earnestly that the Lord would do mighty things with them. That He would gently draw them to Himself. Here at the end of week one, the Lord has taught me to depend on Him always for all things. So many times, I thought I had everything figured out the way it was going to go: my photo lesson and story, my interactions with the kids and with my team members, etc. That’s when my God would pull out something from seemingly nowhere, confounding all my plans. And glory be to God for this. If everything worked-out my way, they way I planned, I might have taken it to my head. But no, because my purpose for being here – as well as the purpose of the team as a whole – is to bring utter glory to the name of God. And that’s a great place to be.
AmariahPartner with us in prayer: We have said goodbye to these kids, but are trusting the Lord for fruit that remains, and for Him to send someone that comes along behind us to continue the work that has begun.
