[07.24 - Wednesday] Topes & Man-Eating Sharks

San Cristobal to Tortugero Primero (Ch'ol Jungle)Today we drove to Ch’ol villages to do more water filter installations, stove installation, children’s ministries, and village outreach. On the way we stopped at a waterfall park for a short break from the tedious car ride. Our next stop was at the river called Agua Azul. As we played in this crystal clear river we enjoyed the strong currents and man-eating sharks (just kidding). Just as we finished swimming it started to downpour which made our final leg of the trip interesting because some of us had to cram into the back of the van so that we could have enough traction to make it to the top of a steep gravel road. At the end of the 100 mile car ride that took about six hours and 220 topes (speed bumps), we hauled our supplies 150 yards to our home for the next two days.To our surprise, we discovered that our new home had a shower and a toilet with a seat on it. When you have lived in the jungle for many days these things become blessings. We also get to enjoy native hammocks and a nice kitchen. After utilizing these conveniences we had a team meeting and went to bed early.- MatthewIMG_6722IMG_6718IMG_6724IMG_6730photo (1)IMG_6731photo (2)photo (3)photo
