[07.17 - Wednesday] Building relationships & eating tamales
Nuevo Mexico (Tojolobal Jungle)Today was our first full day in Nuevo Mexico. The first project we worked on was scouting for the families that requested a water filter to find out if they still wanted a one. The people of Nuevo Mexico were very hospitable and would often invite you in to talk and have tamales with them. When we started the children's program it started pretty slow. We had only twenty kids in the beginning but as we went on the kids gradually started to come and join the other kids. We ended up doing the kids’ program twice because the kids would come in waves During lunch break I went with part of the team to explore the beautiful countryside. When we got back to the church where we were staying we divided up for filter and stove install teams. We installed several filters and ate more tamales before we had to get ready to do the skit for the village and set up the projector for the Jesus film in Tojolobal.- David
