08.01 wed - first stop out of San Cristobal

San Cris to Chihuahua/ComitanThe first thing that comes to mind when you hear Chihuahua is not a town in Mexico.  But there is such a place and today our team left San Cristobal and drove there to hold a children's program and a medical clinic in the town center. There had been an announcement a few days before that a doctor was going to be coming.  When we arrived people were lined up and waiting for us! Everything ran very smoothly with interpreting and talking with the patients. We were able to help 76 people. Many of them had the same problems of cataracts, gastritis, or knee and back pain...not always in that order or together. While the medical clinic was underway the rest of the team was able share the gospel with the children and adults who had gathered around to see what was going on. There were over 100 people  watching. They were very responsive and many seemed to know who Jesus is.Some of us were able to practice our primitive Spanish with one of the ladies who didn't know any English. If we all combined everything we knew, we could carry a conversation! For the night we stayed with the Mousers - a local missionary family to the Comitan area. Comitan ("KOE-me-tawn") is a fun word to say in Spanish. -Rose[stay tuned: more pics and posts coming soon!]
