07.21 Saturday - Maria Morelos: first jungle stop
"As the mountains surround Jerusalem so the Lord surrounds his people from this time forth and forever." Psalm 125:2Here in the jungle, surrounded by mountains, it is easy to imagine this verse, "As the mountains surround Maria Morelos, so the Lord surrounds his people, (Jungle team) from this time forth and forever."At 1:30am this morning we were awakened by roosters crowing about 8 yards from our door. But they quieted down and we got a few more hours of sleep! We were also extremely excited to enjoy rooster soup for lunch. I was very happy to receive what was obviously part of the neck in my soup. On the bright side of being woken up early, we got to see a beautiful sunrise with the clouds resting in the valleys all around us.After breakfast we headed out to do some children's programs. We went to the local soccer basketball field and I played some fiddle and we played around with the kids that showed up. I have never seen so many tiny little soccer experts in my life! After a little group of kids gathered to watch the weird gringos, we invited them over and did a craft showing how we belong to Jesus when we become Christians, and a skit to explain how Jesus is the only way to God, and how the world rejected him. After that the kids decided that the gringo circus was great, and we played some some more soccer. We could hardly understand what they were saying and they could hardly understand what we were saying but everyone understood the game. Have you ever been whooped by a bunch of kids that only came up to your waist? They were tons of fun and by the end of the day we were amigos for life. If only the rest of the world were as receptive to the light as these little children.-Aria
