This Mission is Life

By Chelsea ZackeychelseaDear Jesus,It’s about Your love... Demonstrating Your word, it is about representing You! Being a disciple, following what you call me to, where you tell me to go, it is about emptying myself of “me” and being overwhelmed with You. But God... what is this really about? Because I know it is not about a few two-week-deals throughout ones’ lifetime, not about always going somewhere and doing a project in Your name - that I can do! It is the everyday, seemingly monotonous daily grind that is at the core of the heart. Isn’t that ultimately the truest sense of involvement? It’s hard, God. It is not easy to do this, to ask you to take over my life, to tell you I’ll go where you send me, it’s difficult to put myself out there, into the unknown, because You, God, are what this life is for. You’re what is worth living for and if not spent in surrender and willingness to you, it would be in vain. So God, for you, that’s what it is for - not only for a testimony spoken in Church, or just for the thrill of a trip to a foreign place - but for daily living, wherever I am, whatever the circumstances that You put around me and call me to serve You in.How does this life of mine represent you, how do I give all of me to Your will? Isn’t that the involvement, the daily surrender and seeking of Your face, dear Lord? I want to be part of Your perfect, wonderful, unfathomable story, taking place and shape constantly, with every breathe, every moment, everywhere.Your love I can’t describe, I can only say that my heart desires more of You! You in my walk, day to day, through the predictable, and also through that which I could never foresee, because that is from You, and I want to experience more and more of you.I’ve traveled - flown over the ocean, into something unknown, unfamiliar faces, boldly different cultures - I went to give and show them Your love... And You amazed me with their outward devotion and complete reliance on You, only You. That left me in quiet wonderment... About the genuine love and relationship that they had with You, through situations and losses I can only imagine. They did not curse You - blaming You for their problems - as I am guilty of, but instead praised and danced with a joy and surrender so beautiful I knew it was because of You. I went to bless... But instead You used them to change my life as I was shown how to wake up every morning and love You, no matter what, all over again. I was humbled. This mission is life; every person we encounter, whether they are classmates, siblings, co- workers, a child in an orphanage, or family who has no place to call home... Every situation brought our way, that is the mission statement of our life, and the purpose for why I am here, to be a Light, to be used by You. A mission is the reflection of our hearts for others and sometimes for the world. And God, I want You to be the image that is seen when people look at me. I want You to be glorified in my life, to be the center of who and what I am. I want to bear a mission in life - everyday - as Your disciple, Your child... To be Your hands and feet.About the Author: Chelsea's interest in missions started when her family adopted from an orphanage in west Africa.
