And so the adventure begins...

Jan. 30, 2011Sorry this first post is a bit late. We DID all make it here safely, but I took a long detour with Mandy via Mexico City because of some missed flights. We had some grand adventures toting 250-some pounds of luggage through the Mexico City airport in the middle of the night, speaking Spanish, getting a hotel room and taxi rides, etc. So, while most of the team arrived in Chiapas on Saturday, we finally arrived Sunday afternoon. Amazingly, ALL luggage arrived with the owners this time!Spanish classes started today. Beginner class: Kara, Caitlin, Mandy, and Jacob. Intermediate: Daniel, Russ, David. Advanced: Rachel, Elizabeth.Rachel's revelation of the day: ser and ir (two VERY important words in Spanish) are THE SAME in past tense!David's discovery: Spanish words always have the emphasis on the second to the last syllable except (there's ALWAYS an exception in Spanish) if the word ends in r or has an accent mark somewhere. Useful thing to know!So there you have it... the adventures of wrapping our brains around Spanish grammar, tying our tongues in knots around rolled r's, and learning to communicate the Truth in another language.Elizabeth, for the language teamSpanish VocabBring on the Spanish vocab!car ride Mexican styleThe back seat on the way to school was a bit crowded. Picture all nine of us in one Nissan Pathfinder.back seatIf you're feeling a little crowded, just create some extra space out the window. I took all topes (the very frequent speed bumps around here) as slowly as possible.
