Work Projects
Wednesday, August 12Hola to our friends in the United States and beyond. We had some restful sleep in beds (wonderful inventions!), and with Elizabeth feeling better we began our second day in San Cristobal. At 7:30 am Katie and I got up and helped Julie Terrell make breakfast which consisted of eggs, muffins, and juice. Then the assignments were given out. Daniel and Tommy were working on making cabinets and window shutters for Joel's house (Joel is a missionary to his own people, the Ch'ol Indians - we will be working out in his area next week). Ian, Joni, Katie, Shaylene, and I headed to the upstairs construction site, where we began to clean up the mess, set rebar, drill the holes (OH YEAH), and hammer the rebar into place. Steven put on a welder's hat and looking completely funny began to weld on a support beam on the house. Elizabeth took care of team laundry and helped Julie and Nathan with errands. Katie and I worked shifts from construction to house work. We were given the opportunity to watch Nathan and Julie’s adorable girls while they went out to run some errands. The upstairs started to look totally awesome. We cleared the scraps of wood and took brooms and began to sweep the concrete free of dirt, concrete chunks, wire, small pieces of wood, and so on. I had a blast singing silly songs, and I said that scooping up the piles of concrete reminded me of cleaning up the chicken shed with the exception that the concrete didn’t smell. I got to run the drill as well and that was a blast… sort of. Ian had the most fun
drilling I think. =] One of my favorite things was making a cake and frosting it with Chocolate!!! The best part was when we got to eat it. We had the luxury of cake and coffee, which none of us have had since leaving the United States. It was super good. Yum, yum!! Well I leave ya’ll now please remember to keep the team in your prayers. Pray especially that God will keep our bodies healthy and strong.Signing off from Mexico,Laura Dirksen, for Team Chiapas
