Coconuts and Balloons
Saturday, August 8, 2009Buenas Dias!!! Today was another full day of fun with the children and a lot of first-time experiences, like drinking coconut juice straight from the coconut! One of the villages that we went to was San Antonio. As we were waiting to set up, a man from the village approached us and invited us into his home. He introduced himself as a friend of Nathan and he was really happy that we had come to visit their village (we had the coconut experience in his backyard). We set up at the front porch of the school and we had skits, songs, crafts, and even balloon animals were passed out. Granted a number of
those balloons were popped before we finished handing them out. One thing I noticed was that the elderly people interacted with us a bit more. An elderly lady wanted to participate in the clothespin craft. I was happy that she wanted to join in. It was such a nice change to see that she was open and wasn’t afraid to approach us. Even though the focus is on the children, the parents and elderly gather at a distance to see what we were are doing. It’s a joy know that we are potentially planting God’s seed in them as well. That was just an excerpt from all the different things we did that day. Everything is becoming a blur and I am grateful for the time that God has given me with these people. I’ll have a lot of interesting stories to tell everyone when I’m home.-Joni, Team Chiapas
