Another Day in Paradise!
Another day in paradise (i.e. Colombia)! The past few days have been fairly similar to each other. This morning we visited the same school where we worked on Tuesday except that we talked to the high school kids this time. Because these students weren’t little kids we gave testimonies instead of skits to help encourage them to live a life of character in Jesu Cristo (Jesus Christ). It was a great time also because we had the opportunity to mingle among them after our session and just talk to them and answer questions on a more personal level. Many of them are learning English as a second language so this was a great opportunity to practice. I have personally been so frustrated that I can’t converse with many of the people here that I am certainly going to see if I can take some lessons in Spanish when I get back to the States.
After eating lunch at the school with the principle (Elena) and learning about the needs and ministries that the school provides we went back to hotel Casa De Sion for some much needed rest. Unfortunately there aren’t enough hours in the day for us to do the ministry that we have been doing and sleep too.
The children’s program that we have been doing in the evenings has been a challenge but rewarding. We taught about the character quality of forgiveness this evening. I taught forgiveness through the story of a lost sheep similar to the parable that Jesus told. It illustrated how God forgives us when we cry out in repentance but that there are still consequences for our sins. For instance, after the shepherd found the lost lamb and had tended to its wounds he broke one of its rear legs so that he would have to carry it wherever he went. This causes the lamb to be so used to the shepherd that when its leg does heal he will want to stay close to the shepherd.
When the kiddies left for the night we were treated out to dinner at a very nice steak house by a local business man. The food was phenomenal! They even had live music. It was typical Colombian/Latino type music. We all thoroughly enjoyed the meal and I can happily say left full, fat and happy. Well another very late night. Maybe some day we will get to bed early enough to get a full night’s rest and catch up on some much needed sleep….. nah, I wouldn’t count on it.
Steven, for the team
Daniel gave a talk to the teenagers on being hot, cold, or lukewarm using the analogy of three chairs.
We took turns sharing testimonies with the teens. Here's Steven speaking to the group.
The teens were very responsive.
