Colombia - May 29th || Drew

Hola de Colombia!Our second day at the orphanage began at “9 am” painting a mural on the dining room wall. It was challenging project since our resident artist was teaching a class to the tutors at that time. We started by tracing the picture from a projection on the wall, a simple enough task, but with a computer that kept going to sleep every five seconds and table that if even touched would throw the picture off. We finally were able to finish the first portion of our project with the “faith ladder.” This ladder had one of its hinges completely broken off and so we dubbed it the faith ladder because you had to have a lot of faith that it would be able to hold you. After tracing everything was the painting portion. Mixing colors, getting the right brush, needing creative license to adapt the picture to the desires of the orphanage were all factors in finishing this mural. You heard things like “I need Jesus green” or “I need shoe brown” thrown around the room many times. The final portion of the mural was the touch ups and details. (There were a lot of touch ups) The poor peach colored girl had to have her face repainted three times. But even through all of our obstacles, God worked mightily through us to finish this mural and make it look really good. Just in time too, the kids were just about to come in for lunch.After lunch, we had some time to prepare for our afternoon with the kids. I have been assigned to older kids again this year and I love every minute of it. Today we were talking about how God knows you and wants you to know him. So one activity was they had to write down questions they wanted to know about me. They had good questions! Like “Do I trust God even when things are bad” and “Am I prepared if Jesus came today.” I Told them that I wanted them to know about me and that God want them to know about Him too because He knows you. After that I played game where they had to lead their blindfolded partners through various terrains by their voice alone, they told me that it was very hard following at first because they didn’t trust their partner at first but it gradually got easier as they went along. I related that to how we are all blindfolded in life, barely knowing what’s going to happen in the next moment and that there is one person who is completely loving and trustworthy to lead you. You have to know and trust that He has your best interest at heart, even when things are bad. Then the older kids enjoyed an art lesson from Bri using chalk pastels to create mini masterpieces. After art class, we joined the rest of the program for large group. Tonight’s story was Bubba black sheep; a sheep that got into all kinds of trouble and was a bad example to Junior, a younger sheep following in Bubba’s footsteps. Bubba (me) and Junior (Maxwell) had everyone laughing, including the Narrator (Richard)! After large group we usually have a few minutes of free time with the kids, I have been using this time to play my guitar and sing worship songs in English or Spanish with the kids. I love being here at this orphanage and thank God he gave me the chance to return and see all the kids that impacted me so heavily last year.This has been an amazing trip thus far and it’s not even over!
