Showers of Blessings || Day 8 - Richard
After a late night of fellowship and working I was grateful to fall onto my sleeping pad early this morning. There is something special about waking up to the sound of little voices filling the house in which you are staying. After making the round of market shops for breakfast additions we enjoyed a delicious breakfast and then gathered with all the kids for morning devotions. Every morning they read 5 verses each as they read through the Bible. It was a joy to worship the Lord together with them. Whether they read in Spanish or English their passion and love for the Lord was evident. The journey to the orphanage involved a few stops for lumber and hardware. Lumber is literally sold at "lumber yards." Down one street everyone has their yards filled with lumber and you simply drive till you find someone who has what you want.Out at the ranch (orphanage) several of us worked to construct a stand alone shower while others spent time with the kids. One of the fields at the orphanage was a greenhouse many years ago and was covered with plastic bags filled with dirt. Before they can plant the field as a part of their effort to be self-sustaining and teach the boys life skills and personal responsibility, all plastic has to be dug up and emptied of the dirt. Dirty hands, tanned brows, and sap-covered hands were memories of a job well done.As the afternoon turned to evening we gathered the kids together and shared the message of salvation through the firefighter skit, games, and crafts. As the sun set the kids taught us a rousing new game to help improve our Spanish vocabulary. Mundo Loco might have kept us longer than we planned due to the fun the team was having with the kids. The sun might have set long ago but as we gathered hand in hand with the boys in a circle and they sang of the love of their heavenly papa it was clear the love of God united us.
