Colombia Day 14 - Schools, Shopping, and Sharing
Sadly, today was our last day in Colombia (extremely sad I know). Well, the day started off fairly normal. We woke up at around 7 (well at least I did) And did the normal morning routine. The team got ready and waited for our ride to the school we were teaching at today. We got to the school and found out we had a whopping 9 kids. Now don’t let the small amount of kids fool you. They were definitely a handful (or maybe even more). We ate breakfast with them, then commenced the teaching. We started them out with a craft, then a game, then another game, a lesson, and finally a craft. The kids had a blast!Meanwhile, the leaders (Ruth, Bri, and Richard) were hard at work creating a bulletin board for the school. Of course other team members helped when they weren't teaching. I did my best to help, but I’m not exactly what most people call “crafty” or “artsy”. So my version of helping involved a broom and dust pan! We met a lot of great people at the school, and got to help teach kids that really need God’s love and peace. We finished teaching the kids sometime around 2-ish.As we were about to embark on a shopping trip we found out that one of the cars we were going to take did not feel like starting. After much coaxing and talking we finally persuaded the car to start. Then we were off! We went to a small neighborhood mall, did a little shopping (not very much). After, we went to a hand-made market and shopped there for a while ( a lot more than at the mall). We shopped till sometime around 6:30-7-ish. (You would be surprised how much shopping will work up an appetite). The ENTIRE team was hungry. So we went to this Argentinian Steak house. Probably some of the best steak I’ve had in a while. Needless to say everyone was happy with the night’s choice of food (not to mention stuffed). After dinner we went for Dessert! (let’s face it, you ALWAYS have room for dessert). We went to this little French Restaurant across the street for some Creme Brulee. We were told by an inside source that this was the best place to get it. Well, boy was he right! That by far was the best Crème Brulee I have ever tasted (that may be due to the lack of Crème Brulee I have had in my lifetime). While eating dessert we shared our favorite stories from the trip. There was a 10 second limit (otherwise we might still be there sharing stories). There has been many great memories made on this trip that I will cherish forever. I can’t wait till next year’s trip.- Dustin for the team
