Broadcasting Live from Lima, Peru

Good evening folks! This is Bailey reporting live from Lima, Peru, where I have been personally involved in the adventures of a wonderful American mission team serving here. During this broadcast, we’ll be covering the day’s current events that took place during the first recreational holiday that this team has had.img_1091The day started out the way the team likes to start a day out, sleeping in. After the long overdue rest, various members sauntered over to a local money exchange while a delegation set out to obtain some much-needed medication. Having assembled the masses, we grabbed lunch to-go and departed for the Inca Market, a large open air mall containing everything from alpaca scarves and woven baskets to ornate gold mirrors and shimmering jewelry.ice-cream-2Once the team arrived back at the autobus bedecked with miscellaneous parcels of assorted sizes, we withdrew to a bustling shopping plaza located on a bluff overlooking the ocean. Delicious, creamy ice cream was swiftly obtained and consumed, as well as some Starbucks coffee. Moving back to the bus, the team found out that, somehow, someway, the bus and driver were no where to be found. dscn1133So, rolling with the punches (as is our tradition), we headed back to do some lively bowling at a local bowling alley. Wow - you should have seen the strikes and spares that were emanating from the Global Encounters team’s lanes!!! It was amazingly fun time with much laughter and high-fives shared around.Leaving the lanes, we found the bus and driver and headed out to grab a bite to eat. Pizza was the winning voice of the vote and we all sat down for an appetizing dinner. Unfortunately, our Adrian had another encounter with aji and had to be administered epinephrine and medication by Doctor Gene and Elizabeth. It was an incredible blessing that this allergic reaction was not as bad as the three previous occurrences, and our medical staff was readily prepared to treat the problem swiftly. We hastened back to the hotel.Later on, the team assembled in the hotel gym (which is located in a room on the roof) for an entertaining game of Phase 10. When our fearless leaders were able to join the group, we gladly participated in team devotions. Steven shared the Scripture passage of 2 Corinthians 4, which seems like it was written just for us. All were able to participate in sharing personal insight from the passage. We also had an extended time of remembering and encouraging each other with numerous accounts of God’s faithfulness and sovereignty. Then we all came before God in prayer, praising and pleading together. Our “upper room” time was brought to a close with worship through singing (with songs such as “In Christ Alone,” “Great is the Faithfulness,” and “You Are My All in All”). God’s presence was felt in a special way. There is an intense spiritual battle going on here; physically manifested in various illnesses and fatigue, as well as discouragement fighting in the hearts of our team. Yet even when it´s tough, it is so refreshing to see God continuously proving Himself strong in our weakness. God is so good - His grace is beyond comprehension!Well folks, thanks for tuning in for the day’s broadcast! Our team is having an incredible time serving the Lord and being together. We are all learning and growing so much! Rumor has it that there are rubber band skirmishes taking place in the autobus. So beware! This is Bailey Gilliland, reporting live, from Lima Peru. Good night folks and God bless!2 Corinthians 4:6-10, 16-18For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body… For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.inka-marketThe Inka Marketgillilands-shoppingThe Gilliland girls take on the llamas.
